JESUS & THE KINGDOM: MATTHEW 11-13
Matthew's gospel is one of four accounts of Jesus' life written by one of his disciples. He has skilfully woven together various episodes of Jesus teaching, miracles and reactions to Jesus that culminate in his death and resurrection. His main point is to make clear that Jesus is the promised Christ (Messiah) that the Old Testament pointed to, who would usher in the Kingdom of Heaven and bring salvation for all who follow him.
However in Matthew 11-13 we see a rising tide of disappointment in and opposition to Jesus who doesn't fit their expectations of the Christ and what he should do. Some reactions are positive, others are neutral, others are negative.
It's in these reactions we are forced to ask ourselves - 'What is my reaction to Jesus?' 'What are my expectations of Jesus and are they correct?' 'Do I understand the true nature of Jesus' kingdom and am I willing to enter into it?' Join us this term as we look at Matthew 11-13.
