Stories of 2020
2020 has been a year of uncertainty and change - but in it all God is at work. We caught up with members of our church family to see that ways that God has been at work in their lives this year.
KALEY's Story
How long have you been at Church@thepeak?
Since March 2020. We had just bought a house in the area the week before and were so excited to check out the local church, despite still having six weeks before moving in. I think God had us in his hand, though, because we ended up visiting the Sunday before everything closed because of COVID-19. We met so many lovely people that day and appreciated the solid, biblical teaching. We were really excited to think that Church@thepeak could be our new church – even if we had to go online for a while!
What have you found challenging this year?
We had our second child, Harriet, in December just before Christmas, so it’s been an adjustment (albeit a wonderful one!) welcoming her into our family this year. We also moved (twice!) during lockdown. And changed churches. So we’ve had a lot of change. While we’re feeling really settled now, it’s been pretty full on.
What are you thankful for in this time?
We are so incredibly thankful for our new church family. Despite having only met in person at church once, there were a few lovely people who followed up with us several times during lockdown, brought us meals when we moved in to our new house, connected us into Bible studies – first online and then in person when things started to open up, and invited us to their places once we allowed to do that, too. We feel like we’re making great friends already, and that Church@thepeak is a place where we can grow in our faith and serve Jesus and those around us.
What opportunities can you see from this time?
I’m an extrovert, and people checking in on me has been really valuable during this crazy year. I’ve been trying to do that, too, not just with our new church family, but with my non-Christian friends and family – extra kindness is welcome when the world goes mad, it seems.
I’ve also noticed quite a bit of interest from my non-Christian family about how church works when you can’t meet in person. It’s given me a few opportunities to talk about what church is really all about, and invite them to check it out. They haven’t come yet, but I’m still praying!
What is your prayer for our church community?
I pray that our church community can continue to care for each other well and that we are mindful of those who are particularly isolated and look for ways to draw them close to us.
