Divorce Care Support Group
In 2017, St Aidan’s Anglican Church Hurstville Grove started a Divorce Care Support Group ministry. The Christian program was purchased from the U.S., where it started some 20 years ago, and has since expanded internationally. The program involves 13 sessions. Each week there is a short video presented by Christian experts in the field, followed by group discussion. General feedback on the program is that it helps promote a positive link between the church and the community, and we’ve also heard of many stories of participants coming to a personal relationship with Jesus.
The first Divorce Care group was attended by 9 participants, including both Christians and non-Christians from the community. The success of the first group has led to another group that is currently running from April to the end of June. The leaders of this group, Rob and Sue Dash (both members of St Aidan’s), have scheduled another group to commence from the week of Monday 13th August, running in the evenings. We also have the exciting news that we are expanding the ministry to include Divorce Care 4 Kids, running concurrently with the adult DC group. St Aidan’s has already purchased this program from the US and I understand that it will be the first DC4K group in Sydney.
We are writing to invite your churches to share our vision for the DC ministry. We are looking for your assistance in promoting the 2 programs (adults and kids) commencing in August this year. We are also looking for expressions of interest from people in your congregations to act as support leaders, with a view to running the 2 programs in the support leaders’ churches from 2019. Preferably, leaders would have experienced healing from their divorce journey and be able to show empathy without judgment.
